Protect Your Property with Effective Mosquito Control

Effective Mosquito Control

Mosquito Control

Mosquitoes may be tiny, but their ability to transmit dangerous diseases like West Nile Virus and Zika make them a legitimate threat. Even the mere nuisance of these blood-sucking pests is enough to raise concerns. When you (or your client) are trying to spend time outdoors, you don’t want to be worrying about what’s lurking in the yard, for this reason, you need to practice effective mosquito control.

Whether you’re a landscape provider or a serious do-it-yourselfer, you might be wondering what your options are for effective mosquito control. Considering the risk involved, you want to make sure the job is done right.

That’s why we’re talking about what it takes to practice successful mosquito control.

Start with a Targeted Approach

One of the big keys to success with mosquito control is a targeted approach. Spraying anywhere and everywhere isn’t necessary—and frankly, is a waste of product. It’s important to spray the areas where you hang out—and where mosquitoes tend to lurk. It’s not a coincidence that some of the same spots you like to spend your time are also where the mosquitoes are hanging around. After all, they’re in search of their next blood meal.

These areas might include under the deck, around the patio, around the perimeter of the home, and around foundational plantings. One piece of advice is to not directly spray the plants themselves as we want to avoid hurting the bee population.

Focusing your efforts on these mosquito zones will help take care of these pests in an effective way. It’s a little-known fact that mosquitoes are weak fliers and land often to rest. If their “hang-out spots” are treated, you’re going to successfully target them.

Eliminate Standing Water

If you really want to go the extra mile, you’ll also want to look at potential mosquito breeding grounds on your property where trouble might be brewing. Addressing these spots can go a long way in stopping a problem before it even happens.

You might be surprised to learn that as little as one inch of standing water is a risk for attracting female mosquitoes, which lay as many as 300 eggs at a time. Therefore, an important extra step that can be taken to reduce the mosquito population is to dump any unnecessary sources of stagnant water. Wheelbarrows, kiddie toys, buckets, or even tarps can collect water and create mosquito chaos.

Product Availability

Finding the right products is important when it comes to your effort to reduce the mosquito population on your (or your client’s) property. After all, even the best approach can still fall short if you don’t have effective products to use.

At Nature’s Mulch and Landscape Supply, we have a few products that will fully meet your mosquito control needs. This includes Bifen 7.9 Select-Broad Use Insecticide as well as Lambda CY Pro 9.7 CS.
